So on with the tale…….

Needless to say we took the squirming ball of energy!!! He never stopped moving this little one.

Aren\'t I Cute

However, he was the smartest little guy. When we got him home we found out he knew how to sit, and would practically throw his butt on the ground when you asked him to sit. He was also at least partially potty-trained and only had two accidents that first night.

The next day we made an appointment with the vet, and took him in. We got a bit of a shock when we did – as the vet took at look at his teeth and said that he wasn’t 4 months old but probably just turning 3 months old. The vet guessed the mistake in age was made because of his size.

It broke my heart thinking this poor little guys was just a baby and was found on the Gardiner Expressway here in Toronto – one of the busiest  roads in Canada.

It was telling too. Each time we took Kahlo outside he reacted to every little sound as if his life depended on it – because just a week ago it did!!

He was also still really shy in the house too and would bark at any sounds or quick movements. He HATED the telephone, and would launch a barking alert that could be heard for a city block each time it rang.

We had some work to do with this little guy it seemed.

Had to comment on another blog I read this morning: http://thespiritdog.wordpress.com/2008/06/17/what-your-dog-needs-attention-love-and-affection/

Read quite a few of his posts and had a wonderful time doing so. One comment though did stick out – “Remember we have a life, but to our dog, we are his life.” What a true statement. I wish everyone who owned a dog could read this, as I’ve seen too many get too little attention.

Hi. First time blogger.

Be gentle  – at least at first.

Just want to share with the world the adventures of having an Australian Kelpie for a pet.

My partner and I picked up Kahlo from Toronto Animal Services. We decided to get a dog there as opposed to anywhere else as they have a kill policy unlike the Toronto Humane Society.

When we arrived at TAS they had two dogs that they were offering up for adoption.

The first was a beautiful White furred Alaskan HUsky with the most serene blue eyes. She was 2 years old, calm, quiet and had a real peace about her. She seemed to be ‘The Perfect Dog’

The other dog available was listed as a Husky/German Shepherd mix of 4 months old. He was an active little man whose butt and tail never seemed to stop. He barked his excitement over the visitors and jumped up on the fenced gate to make sure we could notice him. Then he did a little circle dance finishing off the move by poking his nose through the gate and insisting on not one but both of us touching and petting him.

Which one would you take?

Will come back tomorrow to finish the story as this will be a short post as it took me a while just to figure out how to set it up <blush>

Hope you stop by and leave a comment – especially if you are experiencing the world of the Kelpie as a pet as well. Don’t you wish you had a ranch sometimes so that he could do is in born job of stock herding and stop herding everything else in the world
